On 10 October 2023, during the ongoing Maritime Cyprus 2023 shipping conference, the ZAP Board, in its full composition : Andrzej Wróblewski, Jacek Wisniewski and Marcin Talwik, met with a delegation from the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, led by Thomas Kazakos, the Chamber’s long-time secretary.

During the hour-long meeting, the issues of cooperation between the two associations regarding both day-to-day activities and on the ECSA forum, of which the Shipowners’ Association will soon become a full member, were discussed in detail.

There was also a discussion on the European Union’s policy on international shipping, in particular the regulations coming into effect from next year regarding the inclusion of maritime transport in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS).

With regard to Cypriot regulations, the issue of seafarers’ social security was raised. The subject of tonnage tax was also raised.

This was the first meeting of the Board of the Polish Shipowners’ Association with the Cyprus Shipping Chamber. Taking into account the importance of Cypriot shipping in the international arena, the roles of its representatives in the shipping forum, the power of representation, the top positions held in international institutions, the meeting was a great opportunity to exchange experiences and learn about the opinions of industry leaders.
